Where it all began

The term “Meatless Mondays” is pretty colloquial nowadays, and you’ve probably heard it once or twice already. But did you know that there is an official Meatless Monday campaign? That’s right!

"Meatless Monday is a global movement that encourages people to reduce meat in their diet for their health and the health of the planet. The campaign was started in 2003 by Sid Lerner, the Founder of The Monday Campaigns, in association with the Johns Hopkins Center for a Livable Future.”

- Meatless Monday

We started Meatless Meal Day because we are big proponents of the notion and intention behind a lifestyle change like this one. By that we mean, the principle that change doesn’t have to come with large, swooping actions, but can instead be made by small, gradual changes, like simply swapping out meat from your meals for a single day a week. While we love and want to expand on this idea, we also want to give credit to the origins of this movement, and campaigns like Meatless Monday that started it all!
